Ipsy Subscription Bag Review

I have been a subscriber of the Ipsy Glam bag since 2013 and for some reason it never occurred to me to show you the bag and it's contents until now! lol (it's ok to laugh at me, it was pretty silly) Ipsy is a monthly makeup sampling service. For just $10 a month, they send you a little makeup bag with samples and/or full sized products. Each month follows a theme and they send along a little card to introduce you to that months theme.

So this is what is in my March Glam bag that just came in the mail. This month is called Floral Fantasy and of course it has an adorable little floral bag to go with the theme!

What is in the Ipsy bag?

  • NYX Cosmetics: Butter Lipstick
  • pūr~lisse beauty: pūr~delicate gentle soy milk cleanser & makeup remover
  • Boo-Boo Cover-Up: Boo-Boo Cover-Up: Medium Shade
  • Dr. Brandt Skincare: pores no more anti-aging mattifying lotion
  • VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind: Illuminating Face Highlighter

I didn't get to try them all yet, but I will be sure to let you know if there are any stand out products! As with most subscription services, you get a more personalized selection by filling out the questions in your profile that's on their website. Trust me, I received a lot of stuff I wouldn't use the first few months! Then I found the profile and filled it out. I've used almost everything I've gotten in my bags since!

Ipsy is the cheapest subscription box that offers at least some full sized products. All the other boxes at this price point send all trial size products, like Sephora's Play! The down side to Ipsy though, is that you may receive products from brands you've never heard of before. While I have found a few great products that I normally wouldn't have tried, I have not repurchased most of what came in my Ipsy bag.

Don't get me wrong...it is a great deal and some of the products are excellent quality! I just find it off putting that I have to order the products online. I prefer things I can pick up when I'm at the mall, ya know? While Ipsys products might be full sized they are more likely to have indie brands or new products that are just starting out.

You can get your own Ipsy glam bag at Ipsy's website. I hear the waiting list is kind of long now, so be prepared. It was only a week or so back when I started, but I have heard that now you can invite friends to speed up the process. If you do sign up, I appreciate you using my referral link! Ipsy gives points for referrals, FB and twitter shares which can be redeemed for free products! Bonus!

If you're not sure if you'll like what's in an Ipsy bag, try my trick for determining what is really in a subscription bag or box. Just use social media to help you find out what they really send in these mystery boxes!

Update: as of 2020 I am no longer a subscriber to Ipsy regular and instead subscribe to Ipsy Plus. I have since joined Allure and Birchbox and have cancelled BB, but still have Alure which has changed their subscription program.

I did subscribe to Boxycharm for about 6 months, but left when it was revealed that they have their products made in PRC (China) in their own factory, not from the actual brand factories! I was already unhappy with the sheer volume of highlighter products sent each month. Seriously, 3 in one moth is a bit much! lol

I will continue to write about each subscription box as I order them since I get so many messages about them!

I have a code for Ipsy if you would like to join. Use this link:  https://www.ipsy.com/maxfzbgq and get 1800 points to use in the Ipsy store to buy additional makeup products. I will also get 1800 points if you use my link, so I would appreciate it greatly if you used it! After joining you can find your own link in your dashboard under refer-a-friend

Let me know what you think if you get a subscription!

    1. This month was kind of skimpy! I've had bags that had a ton in them but every once in awhile I get one that doesn't seem 'full'. Hopefully it will be better next month!

    1. It surprised me too! My daughter has been on the list for 3 months now! Another friend told me she was on the list for a few months, then referred people and got approved in a few days. They don't say it's a requirement though....so I'm not sure.
